Sapindus mukorossi

Aritha, also known as soapnut or soap berry, is the dried, deseeded shell of the fruit of the Sapindus mukorossi tree, native to the foothills of the Himalayas. These shells contain saponins, naturally occurring surfactant compounds that foam and cleanse when they come into contact with water. They have been used as a natural cleaning agent across South Asia for centuries, both for laundry and for hair and body care.

In our haircare formulas aritha serves as a gentle, plant-derived cleansing agent that provides a deeper, more clarifying cleanse in reset-style formulas. It is biodegradable, hypoallergenic, and one of the most genuinely natural cleansing ingredients available.

How It Works

Aritha's saponins lower the surface tension of water and emulsify oils and debris at the scalp, allowing them to be rinsed away cleanly. Unlike synthetic surfactants, aritha saponins are gentle and do not strip the hair of its natural oils. Their natural antimicrobial properties also contribute to a cleaner, more balanced scalp environment over time.
