Collection: Nettle
Botanicals & Herbs
Urtica dioica
Stinging nettle is one of the most nutrient-dense plants in the European botanical tradition, growing abundantly across hedgerows, riverbanks, and woodland edges from the British Isles to the Mediterranean. Despite its reputation for causing a sting on contact, when fresh, dried, and processed nettle is an extraordinarily nourishing botanical with a long history of use in both food and medicine. But you do have to catch it early- because you will be covered in welts if you try to cut it back in the late Summer or Fall.
In haircare, nettle has been used for generations as a tonic for the scalp and hair. Its high content of iron, silica, and vitamins A, C, and K makes it one of the most nutritionally relevant herbs for supporting hair health from the outside in.
How It Works
Nettle acts as a natural astringent, helping to control excess sebum at the scalp without stripping or over-drying. Its silica content supports hair strength and elasticity, while its iron and vitamin content nourishes the scalp environment. It is traditionally used in formulas designed for oily scalp, thinning hair, and dandruff-prone conditions, where its balancing and toning properties are most beneficial.
