Collection: Oats & Oat Protein

Botanicals & Herbs

Avena sativa

Oats have been used in skincare for centuries, perhaps most famously in the colloidal oatmeal baths prescribed by European herbalists for itchy, irritated skin. The humble oat grain contains a remarkable array of skin-supporting compounds, including beta-glucans, avenanthramides, lipids, and proteins that work together to soothe, protect, and nourish both skin and hair.

At Le Silo Bleu we use oats in multiple forms across our product line, as finely milled oatmeal in soap for gentle texture and comfort, and as hydrolyzed oat protein in haircare for its strengthening and moisture-sealing properties, and oatmilk for soothing properties in soap.

How It Works

Beta-glucans in oats form a protective, moisture-retaining film on both skin and hair. Avenanthramides, unique antioxidant compounds found only in oats, provide potent anti-inflammatory and anti-itch benefits. Hydrolyzed oat protein penetrates the hair shaft to reinforce its structure, reduce breakage, and improve elasticity. Together, these compounds make oats one of the most genuinely multi-functional botanicals in natural formulation.
