Collection: Rhassoul Clay
Clays & Minerals
Stevensite
Rhassoul clay, also spelled ghassoul, is a rare mineral clay mined exclusively from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, where it has been used in traditional hammam rituals for over 1,400 years. Its name comes from the Arabic rassala, meaning "to wash," and washing is precisely what rhassoul does with remarkable efficiency. It is one of the most ion-exchange active clays available, giving it superior absorbency combined with a gentleness that makes it suitable even for dry or sensitive skin.
In our haircare formulas, rhassoul clay is used in purifying and scalp-clarifying formulas where we want the deep cleansing benefits of a clay without the potential over-drying effect of more aggressively absorbent clays.
How It Works
Rhassoul clay's high silica, magnesium, potassium, and calcium content gives it exceptional ion-exchange capacity, meaning it attracts and binds to positively charged impurities, oils, and debris, drawing them away from the skin and scalp surface. Unlike some clays, rhassoul also has a naturally moisturizing mineral profile that helps compensate for the moisture it removes, resulting in a cleaner scalp that still feels balanced rather than stripped.
