Collection: Bentonite Clay
Clays & Minerals
Montmorillonite
Bentonite clay is a volcanic ash-derived clay formed from the weathering of ancient volcanic deposits, named after Fort Benton, Wyoming, where large deposits were first discovered. It is one of the most electrically active cosmetic clays available, carrying a strong negative charge that makes it exceptionally effective at attracting and binding to positively charged toxins, heavy metals, and impurities at the skin surface.
In our formulas, bentonite clay is used for its deep-drawing, purifying properties. It is one of the most powerful cleansing clays available and is used in carefully balanced amounts to ensure effective detoxification without over-drying the skin.
How It Works
When bentonite clay is mixed with water, it swells and develops a strong electrical charge that attracts and binds to impurities, bacteria, and excess oils at the skin surface. It also absorbs water and expands significantly, creating a drawing sensation as it dries that many find deeply satisfying. Its silica content supports skin elasticity, and its magnesium and calcium content provide additional mineral nourishment alongside its cleansing action.
