Carrot seed essential oil is steam distilled from the seeds of the wild carrot,Daucus carota, also known as Queen Anne's Lace,the same species from which the cultivated carrot was developed, still growing in meadows, roadsides, and coastal grasslands across Europe and North America. The oil should not be confused with carrot tissue oil,a macerated preparation made from carrot roots in a carrier oil,as carrot seed essential oil is distilled from the seeds and has an entirely different aromatic and therapeutic profile.

Carrot seed essential oil has a warm, earthy, slightly sweet and woody aroma that is complex and distinctive. It is one of the most valued essential oils for mature skincare, with its carotol content providing meaningful skin cell-supporting and antioxidant properties.
