Cetyl Alcohol & Stearyl Alcohol blend
Cetearyl alcohol is a blend of two fatty alcohols, cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol, both derived from natural plant sources such as coconut and palm kernel oil. Like cetyl alcohol, it is a conditioning, waxy fatty alcohol with no relationship to drying alcohols. The combination of cetyl and stearyl alcohols produces an ingredient with a slightly different texture and melting profile than either alone, firmer and more substantive, making it particularly well suited to richer conditioning formulas and body care products.
Cetearyl alcohol is widely used across our conditioner bar and body care formulas, where its emollient, thickening, and stabilizing properties contribute meaningfully to the performance and feel of the finished product.
How It Works
The slightly higher melting point of cetearyl alcohol compared to cetyl alcohol alone makes it useful in formulas where a firmer structure is needed, particularly solid conditioner bars that need to hold their shape at room temperature while still melting and spreading easily on hair. It conditions the hair surface, reduces static, adds shine, and improves manageability in the same way as cetyl alcohol, but with a richer, more substantive feel in the finished formula.
