Collection: Cetyl Alcohol

Functional, Actives & Additives

1-Hexadecanol

Cetyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol derived from natural plant sources, most commonly coconut or palm kernel oil. Despite its name, it is nothing like the drying alcohols (ethanol, isopropanol) that people instinctively associate with the word "alcohol." Fatty alcohols are an entirely different chemical category, they are solid, waxy, and deeply conditioning rather than drying or volatile. Cetyl alcohol has been used in cosmetics for over a century and is one of the most well-established and trusted emollients in formulation.

In our conditioner bars and haircare formulas cetyl alcohol is a foundational ingredient,it provides the slip, softness, and manageability that make a conditioner bar genuinely effective rather than merely decorative.

How It Works

Cetyl alcohol works by coating the hair shaft with a thin, lubricating layer that smooths the cuticle, reduces friction between hair strands, and improves glide during detangling. This mechanical smoothing action is what reduces breakage, minimizes frizz, and adds the soft, silky feel that distinguishes a well-formulated conditioner from a basic one. It also acts as a thickener and stabilizer in formula, helping conditioner bars hold their shape and spread evenly through the hair.
