Collection: Coconut Milk

Functional, Actives & Additives

Cocos nucifera

Coconut milk is produced by grating and pressing the white flesh of the mature coconut,a rich, creamy liquid that is distinct from coconut water (the clear liquid inside young coconuts) and from coconut cream (a more concentrated version of coconut milk). It contains a significant proportion of natural fats, proteins, and sugars that contribute meaningfully to the character of soap formulas that use it as their water phase.

In our soap formulas coconut milk is used in place of some or all of the water, where its natural fats and sugars contribute to a richer, creamier lather and a more nourishing skin feel in the finished bar.

How It Works

The natural sugars in coconut milk, primarily glucose and fructose, contribute to a boost in lather volume and quality, similar to the effect of adding refined sugar to a soap formula. The proteins in coconut milk contribute to a silkier, more luxurious lather feel. The natural fats add additional conditioning to the finished bar. Like all milk soaps, coconut milk soaps can take on a warmer, creamier color during saponification due to the sugars reacting with the alkaline lye,a beautiful, natural variation that is characteristic of handmade milk soap.
