Ectoin is a naturally occurring amino acid derivative produced by extremophilic microorganisms,bacteria that survive in extreme environments such as salt lakes, hot springs, and desert soils by producing ectoin as a protective shield around their cells. This remarkable "extremolyte" protects cellular structures from heat, UV radiation, dryness, and osmotic stress,and when applied topically to skin, it confers some of these same protective properties to the skin cells it contacts.

Ectoin is a genuinely exceptional active ingredient,one of the few that has been extensively studied in clinical trials and demonstrated meaningful results for skin barrier repair, hydration, and protection against environmental stressors. How It Works

Ectoin works by forming a protective layer of water molecules around proteins and cell membranes,a phenomenon known as the "ectoin effect",that shields them from denaturation by heat, UV, and osmotic stress. Applied topically this translates to enhanced skin barrier function, reduced transepidermal water loss, protection against UV-induced damage, and meaningful relief for reactive or eczema-prone skin. It is non-irritating, suitable for all skin types, and backed by more clinical evidence than most natural actives.
