Frankincense essential oil is steam distilled from the resin of Boswellia trees,small, scrubby trees native to the arid mountains of Oman, Yemen, Somalia, and Ethiopia that produce their precious resin in response to deliberate cuts in their bark. The resin,known as olibanum,has been traded along the ancient incense routes of the Arabian Peninsula for over 5,000 years, valued as one of the most sacred and precious aromatics in human history. It was gifted by the Magi, burned in temples from Jerusalem to Rome to Cairo, and used medicinally in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine for millennia.
In modern skincare frankincense has earned scientific credibility to match its ancient reputation, with its boswellic acid content demonstrating meaningful anti-inflammatory and skin cell-supporting properties in clinical research.
