Glycerin,also known as glycerol,is a naturally occurring byproduct of the saponification process that produces cold process soap. When oils react with lye to form soap, glycerin is released as a co-product and remains in the finished bar, contributing significantly to its moisturizing and skin-feel properties. Commercial soap manufacturers typically remove glycerin from their bars (selling it separately for use in other products),which is one of the main reasons handmade cold process soap feels so different and more nourishing on the skin.

In our formulas we retain all naturally produced glycerin in our soap bars and add additional vegetable-derived glycerin to select haircare and skincare formulas where extra humectant support is beneficial.

How It Works

Glycerin is one of the most effective natural humectants available,it attracts water molecules from the surrounding environment and binds them to the skin surface, supporting sustained hydration throughout the day. In soap it draws moisture to the skin during washing, contributing to the comfortable, non-stripped feeling that handmade soap users consistently notice compared to commercial alternatives. In haircare it adds moisture and slip, supporting ease of detangling and a smoother, more manageable hair feel.
