Glyceryl Stearate

Glyceryl Monostearate
Glyceryl stearate is a naturally derived emulsifier and co-emulsifier produced from the esterification of glycerin and stearic acid, both plant-derived ingredients found naturally in many of the butters and oils we already use. It is a gentle, well-tolerated emulsifying and thickening agent that works primarily as a co-emulsifier alongside a primary emulsifier like Olivem 1000 or Emulsifying Wax NF, enhancing stability and contributing to a richer, creamier emulsion texture.
Glyceryl stearate also functions as an emollient in its own right, the glycerin component provides humectant properties, while the stearate component contributes conditioning and skin-softening benefits, making it a functional ingredient on multiple levels simultaneously.
How It Works
As a co-emulsifier, glyceryl stearate works at the oil-water interface of an emulsion to stabilize droplets and prevent separation, enhancing the performance of the primary emulsifier and contributing to a more stable, longer-lasting formula. Its emollient properties leave a soft, smooth skin feel after application. Its thickening contribution helps create the body and consistency expected of a lotion or cream, and its natural origin makes it compatible with natural and certified organic formulations.
