Guar Cat,Cyamopsis tetragonoloba

Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, known in the industry as Guar Cat,is a cationic conditioning agent derived from guar beans, the seeds of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba, a legume cultivated primarily in India and Pakistan. It is produced by chemically modifying natural guar gum to give it a positive charge, the same cationic character that makes BTMS and other conditioning quaternary compounds so effective at depositing on the negatively charged surface of hair.

Guar Cat is a particularly effective conditioning agent for our shampoo bar formulas, where it provides conditioning benefits during the cleansing step itself, helping hair feel softer and more manageable immediately after shampooing, even before conditioning.

How It Works

Guar Cat's positive charge causes it to be attracted to and deposit on the negatively charged surface of the hair shaft during rinsing,a process that becomes more efficient the more damaged or chemically treated the hair is, as damage increases the hair's negative charge. This electrostatic deposition smooths the cuticle, reduces friction, improves combability, and helps reduce static. It is particularly effective in shampoo formulas where it provides a "two-in-one" conditioning effect without interfering with the cleansing performance of the surfactants.
