Hibiscus rosa-sinensis

Hibiscus, known as the "Botox plant" in natural haircare communities, is a flowering tropical plant with a long history of use in Ayurvedic and West African hair traditions. Its vivid crimson flowers and leaves are rich in amino acids, vitamin C, alpha-hydroxy acids, and anthocyanins, the same pigments that give red wine and berries their antioxidant potency and deep color.

In haircare hibiscus is prized above all for its ability to define curl patterns, add slip, and restore shine to dull or damaged hair. In skincare its natural AHA content provides gentle exfoliation and brightening, while its mucilage contributes a soothing, conditioning feel.

How It Works

Hibiscus's amino acid content strengthens the hair shaft and reduces breakage, while its natural AHAs gently remove dead skin cells at the scalp surface, promoting a cleaner, more receptive environment for conditioning ingredients. Its mucilage provides natural slip and conditioning to the hair, easing detangling and enhancing curl definition. Its anthocyanins provide antioxidant protection and contribute natural warm tones to formulas.
