Honey is one of the oldest cosmetic ingredients in the world, used in skincare preparations by ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and across virtually every culture that kept bees. Produced by honeybees from the nectar of flowers, it is a complex mixture of sugars, enzymes, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that gives it remarkable preservation, humectant, and skin-supportive properties. Cleopatra is said to have bathed in milk and honey,a combination still celebrated in soap and bath preparations today.
At Le Silo Bleu honey is used in select soap formulas where its natural sugars, humectant properties, and warm, golden character contribute to a bar that feels indulgent and genuinely nourishing. Products containing honey are not vegan, something we are transparent about in our product descriptions.
How It Works
Honey's natural sugars, primarily fructose and glucose, contribute to larger, more luxurious bubbles in soap lather and a slightly warmer, more golden color in the finished bar. Its humectant properties draw moisture to the skin during washing, leaving it feeling softer and more comfortable after rinsing. Its natural enzymes and antioxidants provide mild antibacterial and skin-supportive properties. Because honey contains sugars, it can cause extra heat during saponification, requiring careful temperature management to prevent ricing or overheating.
