Collection: Kokum Butter
Base Oils & Butters
Garcinia indica
Kokum butter is extracted from the seeds of the kokum tree, native to the Western Ghats region of India, where it has been used in Ayurvedic medicine and traditional cooking for centuries. It is one of the hardest and most stable plant butters available, with a melting point close to skin temperature, which means it melts smoothly and evenly on contact without feeling heavy or greasy.
In our soap formulas, kokum butter is a valuable palm-free hardening agent, contributing structure and bar longevity while keeping the lather feel refined and smooth. Its extreme stability also makes it an excellent choice for lip balms and lotion bars where hardness and a clean melt are essential.
How It Works
Kokum butter's high stearic acid content gives it its exceptional hardness and stability. Unlike some other hard butters, it is non-comedogenic and absorbs cleanly into skin without leaving a waxy residue. It is also naturally emollient, softening the skin on contact. Its stability makes it one of the most shelf-stable butters available for use in leave-on and rinse-off formulas alike.
