Neroli essential oil is steam distilled from the freshly picked blossoms of the bitter orange tree,one of the most labor-intensive and expensive essential oils in the world to produce, requiring approximately 1,000 kilograms of hand-harvested flowers to produce just one kilogram of oil. The oil takes its name from Anne Marie Orsini, Princess of Nerola, who in the late 17th century made it fashionable to scent gloves and bathwater with bitter orange blossom,establishing what would become one of the most celebrated fragrances in European perfumery history.
