Palmarosa essential oil is steam distilled from a tropical grass native to India,a relative of lemongrass and citronella, but with an aroma entirely unlike either. Its high geraniol content gives it a fresh, sweet, rose-like character that is sometimes used as an adulterant in rose oil,though palmarosa has its own distinctive beauty that is more open and grassy than true rose. It is cultivated primarily in India, Nepal, and Indonesia for the perfume, cosmetics, and flavoring industries.

Palmarosa's exceptionally high geraniol content,often exceeding 80%,provides potent antimicrobial properties alongside meaningful skin cell-supporting activity. It is traditionally used in formulas for dry, mature, or congested skin, where its ability to support sebum regulation and skin cell renewal is most beneficial. Its hydrating and balancing properties make it one of the most skin-active of all essential oils.
