Collection: Rosemary Oil Extract (ROE)
Essential Oils
Rosmarinus officinalis,CO2 extract
Rosemary Oil Extract, commonly abbreviated as ROE,is a CO2 extract of rosemary that is concentrated specifically for its antioxidant compounds rather than its aromatic properties. It is important to understand that ROE is not the same as rosemary essential oil, and it is not used in our formulas as a fragrance or therapeutic aromatic ingredient. ROE is used exclusively as a natural antioxidant preservative,a functional ingredient that protects the oils in our formulas from oxidative rancidity and extends shelf life.
We include it in our ingredient library in the spirit of full transparency, every ingredient in our formulas is here, including the functional ones that work quietly behind the scenes to ensure the products you receive are as fresh as possible.
What It Does
ROE's high carnosic acid and carnosol content are among the most potent natural antioxidant compounds available for cosmetic preservation. These compounds scavenge free radicals and prevent the chain reaction of oxidation that causes oils to go rancid, extending the useful life of oil-based formulas without the use of synthetic antioxidants like BHT or BHA. It is used in very small amounts, typically 0.1% or less, where it is effective without contributing significantly to the scent of the finished product.
