Collection: Rose Absolute
Essential Oils
Rosa damascena / Rosa centifolia
Rose absolute is solvent-extracted from the petals of Rosa damascena (the Damask rose, grown primarily in Bulgaria and Turkey) or Rosa centifolia (the cabbage rose, cultivated in Grasse, France). It is one of the most expensive and precious of all aromatic ingredients, requiring approximately 4 to 5 tonnes of rose petals, hand-harvested at dawn when fragrance is at its peak, to produce just one kilogram of absolute. The rose de mai of Grasse,Rosa centifolia,is among the most prized and historically significant florals in French perfumery, deeply connected to the tradition of Haute Parfumerie that has defined French luxury for centuries.
Rose absolute is used in our most precious formulas in very small amounts, where its extraordinary complexity, some 300+ aromatic compounds, contributes a depth and beauty that no synthetic rose can replicate.
Aromatic Profile
Scent: Deeply floral, rich, honeyed, complex, green, slightly spicy
Character: Luxurious, romantic, deeply feminine
Blends well with: Neroli, jasmine, geranium, patchouli, cedarwood, bergamot
Skin Benefits
Rose absolute's geraniol, citronellol, and nerol content provide antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin cell-supporting properties. It is traditionally used in formulas for mature, dry, or sensitive skin where its deeply nourishing and toning properties are most beneficial. Even at the tiny percentages used in formulation, its aromatic presence is transformative.
