Rosa canina
Rose hips are the fruit of the rose plant, the small, red-orange seed pods that remain on the bush after the petals fall. Native to Europe and widely naturalized across temperate regions worldwide, the dog rose (Rosa canina) produces some of the most vitamin C-rich rose hips available, containing significantly more vitamin C per gram than oranges. In France, cynorrhodon, rose hip, has been harvested from hedgerows and field edges for centuries, made into tisanes, syrups, and remedies.
In skincare rose hips are prized for their vitamin C content and their natural trans-retinoic acid precursors, which support skin cell renewal and a brighter, more even complexion. As a botanical they add warm, fruity tones and their characteristic skin-brightening properties to our formulas.
How It Works
Rose hips' vitamin C content supports collagen synthesis and provides antioxidant protection against environmental oxidative stress. Their natural carotenoids contribute additional antioxidant support and warm pigmentation. Their trans-retinoic acid precursors support gentle skin cell turnover, contributing to a more refined and luminous complexion over time. Used as a dried botanical in soap they add warm, rust-red color and their natural skin-brightening character.
