Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate,known as SCI,is a mild, coconut-derived surfactant that serves as the primary cleansing agent in our solid shampoo bar formulas. Derived from coconut fatty acids and isethionic acid, it is one of the gentlest effective surfactants available,producing a rich, silky lather while maintaining a skin and scalp pH that is much closer to the hair's natural acid mantle than traditional soap-based shampoo bars.

SCI is a cornerstone of our shampoo bar surfactant system, chosen specifically because it cleans effectively without the harshness that lower-quality surfactants can cause,leaving hair feeling soft and manageable rather than stripped or squeaky clean.

How It Works

SCI molecules have a larger molecular structure than many other surfactants, which means they attach effectively to dirt and sebum at the scalp surface but are less likely to penetrate or disrupt the hair's protective cuticle. This selective cleaning action removes what needs to be removed while preserving the hair's natural protective systems. Its mild pH profile,significantly lower than traditional cold process soap,means it does not swell or roughen the hair cuticle during washing, contributing to smoother, shinier hair after rinsing.
