Collection: Sea Buckthorn Oil
Base Oils & Butters
Hippophae rhamnoides
Sea buckthorn oil is pressed from the bright orange berries of the sea buckthorn shrub, a hardy plant that thrives in coastal and mountainous regions across Europe and Asia. It is one of the most nutrient-dense plant oils available, containing over 190 bioactive compounds, including vitamins C, E, K, and B12, carotenoids, phytosterols, and an exceptionally rare combination of omega-3, 6, 7, and 9 fatty acids.
Its vibrant orange color comes from its extraordinary carotenoid content - the same pigments found in carrots and sweet potatoes. At Le Silo Bleu we are using sea buckthorn oil in our upcoming skincare formulas, where a little goes a remarkably long way. It is worth noting that sea buckthorn can temporarily impart a warm, golden tone to skin, a sign of its potency.
How It Works
Sea buckthorn's omega-7 fatty acid content, rare in plant oils, is particularly supportive of skin and mucous membrane health. Its dense carotenoid and vitamin C content provides powerful antioxidant protection, while its phytosterols support the skin's barrier function. Used in small amounts, it adds meaningful nutritional depth to a face oil formula without overwhelming the other ingredients.
