Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate

Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate,known as SLSA,is a mild, plant-derived surfactant produced from coconut and palm kernel oils. It is important to understand that despite its name, SLSA is distinctly different from Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS),the harsh, penetrating surfactant notorious for causing irritation. SLSA has a much larger molecular structure that prevents it from penetrating the skin barrier, making it one of the gentlest foaming agents available while still producing an impressive, fluffy lather.

We use SLSA as a supporting surfactant in select formulas where additional foam and a lighter, fluffier lather character is desired alongside our primary surfactants.

How It Works

SLSA's large molecular size is the key to its gentleness,it sits on the skin surface rather than penetrating it, lifting surface oils and debris into the lather without disrupting the skin's barrier function. It produces a voluminous, light foam that is visually impressive and feels luxurious during use. It is water-soluble, biodegradable, and well-tolerated by most skin types including sensitive skin.

A Note on SLSA vs SLS

We want to be clear: SLSA and SLS are different ingredients despite their similar names. SLSA is derived from plant sources, has a larger molecular structure, does not penetrate the skin, and is considered safe for sensitive skin. SLS is a smaller, more penetrating molecule associated with skin irritation,and is not used in our formulas.
