Mentha spicata

Spearmint essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves of Mentha spicata,the classic garden mint native to Europe and widely cultivated worldwide. Unlike peppermint, spearmint contains relatively little menthol,its dominant compound is carvone, which gives it a sweeter, softer, more approachable mint character. Where peppermint is intense and medicinal, spearmint is bright and fresh,the mint of chewing gum, garden cocktails, and summer gardens rather than the mint of vapor rubs and cold remedies.

In our formulas spearmint contributes a clean, sweet mintiness that is gentler and more universally appealing than peppermint,particularly effective in formulas where freshness is desired without the intensity of full menthol.

Skin & Scalp Benefits

Spearmint's carvone content provides mild antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that are gentler than peppermint's menthol-driven action. It is better tolerated by sensitive skin and can be used in formulas where peppermint's intensity would be inappropriate, while still contributing meaningful freshness and mild scalp-stimulating properties.
