Vanilla oleoresin and vanilla CO2 extract are concentrated aromatic extracts derived from the cured seed pods of Vanilla planifolia,a climbing orchid native to Mexico that was cultivated by the Totonac people for centuries before the Spanish brought it to Europe in the 16th century. True vanilla essential oil does not exist,vanilla's aromatic compounds are not volatile enough to be captured by steam distillation,which is why oleoresin (solvent extraction) and CO2 extraction are the methods used to capture its warm, sweet, deeply familiar scent.
