Vetiveria zizanioides

Vetiver essential oil is steam distilled from the roots of the vetiver grass,a tall, clumping grass native to India and now cultivated across the tropics from Haiti to Indonesia. The roots can extend up to four meters into the earth, which gives vetiver its remarkable grounding, anchoring character in both agriculture,where it is used to prevent soil erosion,and aromatherapy, where it is one of the most deeply earthy and grounding of all essential oils. The finest vetiver for perfumery is considered to come from Haiti, where the distinctive terroir of the Haitian highlands imparts a particularly complex, smoky character.

Vetiver is the quintessential base note,deep, smoky, earthy, and complex. It anchors lighter notes in a blend and gives formulas a sense of depth and longevity that few other oils can provide.
