Collection: Yellow Clay
Clays & Minerals
Illite / Iron oxide blend
Yellow clay is a naturally occurring cosmetic clay whose warm golden color comes from a higher concentration of iron oxides within the mineral deposit, the same compounds that give soil and sandstone their characteristic yellow and ochre tones. Found in deposits across France, Australia, and South America, yellow clay sits between the gentleness of pink clay and the absorbency of green clay in terms of its skin feel and oil-drawing capacity.
In our soap and hair formulas, yellow clay produces beautiful warm golden and ochre tones that pair naturally with honey, oat milk, turmeric, and warm botanical fragrances. Its moderate absorbency makes it suitable for normal to combination skin types.
How It Works
Yellow clay's iron oxide content gives it moderate absorbency that lifts surface impurities and mild excess sebum without the intensity of more active clays. Its mineral profile contributes gentle skin-supportive properties, and its natural pigmentation produces warm, earthy tones in cold process soap that deepen beautifully during the cure period. It adds slip and a refined lather texture to finished bars.
